Improving VM for popular independent garden retailer Haskins meant ensuring its people could perform to their best ability.

For the past five years, popular garden centre retailer Haskins has been working with Visual Thinking to provide the support, knowledge, skills and expertise needed to help retail sales bloom. By delivering robust VM strategy and expert VM coaching, we’ve helped seed and nurture a culture for outstanding store presentation with a cohesive, business wide, fully integrated approach.

Planned ahead of the key summer trading season, our latest VM initiative extended VM training and development to key people within the Haskins Support Office, integrating and aligning the key internal functions to deliver a focused and more integrated customer experience that would sprout the best of Haskins for shoppers instore.

Like all companies, Haskins have regular needs to update their policy approach, and periodically to being new people on board into the company and its working practices. Our recent one-day workshop for Head Office Teams brought together key people from across all areas of the business to discuss a range of integrated VM and store presentation topics, exploring the themes through their own individual department activities and functional outputs. Presented with a mix of stimulating classroom learning and relevant instore practical activities, the teams worked together to learn how to maximise a more collaborative approach and new ways of working within product range development, space planning, store presentation and retail marketing.

Supported by updates to the existing Haskins VM manual previously developed by Visual Thinking, this highly focused workshop built on past successes, forming a seamless and connected element to drive retail consistency, operational effectiveness and sales performance instore.

Following our training, teams felt more confident, and knew how to work better together to deliver more impactful and authoritative range statements and seasonal promotions. Working together, we provided a range of successfully targeted, fully integrated VM development and training services – exploring how the teams could work smarter and more collaboratively to integrate activities ‘for better VM’ to improve retail execution and consistency, as well as maximising overall brand performance.
